Another great shoot with Kirsten at Pitt Meadows.

Not exactly sure which park this was but it was along the canal in Pitt Meadows. One of the first times I got to test out my new Alienbees and I was very happy with the outcome. This was a simple shoot using two lights one hard light for the hair and an umbrella at around 45 degrees just off centre. The power of the Mono lights compared to a standard flash is amazing. I really struggle to use standard flashes even though they are lighter and cheaper the mono light just has the power I need.

Pitt Meadows is a great location with great backdrops and open landscapes. The only issue we had was being approached by the police while shooting. For commercial photography you should get a licence from the parks board. Having Mono lights tends to attract attention. Once I explained the situation the police let us continue, however I suspect if the shoot looks to commercial questions on permits will be asked.

I had very little processing to do on the images but the one thing I played around with was the grass. The original colour was a dark green but I changed some of the images to yellow grass.

I wish we had more days in summer like this.

I attend a Ken Nash/Norm workshop with the incredibly talented alternative model Mosh and local model Escara. The highlight of this workshop was watching how Mosh moved from pose to pose so effortlessly, without repetition and poised for the perfect shot time and time again. Within a 15 minute set I would get around a 100 shots, with the vast majority of them usable.

I only processed a couple of these shoots with the aim to review and update later. With so many to chose from I usually end up undecided on which one to look at next.

A couple of days after the shoot Ken had everyone back at his place to edit an image from the shoot. A natural talent at all things Photoshop, Ken is able to get images to balance images with great precision.

I have included some of the behind the scenes photos from the workshop.

I had a great Gothic styled retro 40′s type theme shoot. It is something that I have wanted to do for sometime. For these the theme is really important, and Megan really had the right wardrobe. I would love to do this type of shoot again but outside of a studio.

I shot with one of my favourite models Mihola, who has really flawless complexion. The wardrobe was provided by Megan Tiffany Nash who always has the most amazing arsenal of unbelievable clothes and Victoria Ho who did a stunning job on the make-up. We ended up shooting four themes and all of them had great take away pics.

I had a great shoot with Katlin at Ioan Park. Again I misjudged the time to get there and we were left with a very short time to shoot. We got some great spring shots with red gelled flashes to accentuate the red of the models hair.

We also got some with the setting sun and the desolate landscape found in some areas of the park. Some of these were my personal favorites as they had a surreal feel.

This park seems to be a fav of Vancouver photographers. It is one of those places you can change scenes in minutes from beach to swamp to yellow fields of grass to a stark desert.
